The Chicago Music Festival and great food go together – the Taste of Polonia is a celebration of Polish food, beer, heritage, crafts, culture and traditions. Besides the live music, the event features a Kids Zone with carnival rides and arcade games, plus dozens of vendors offering hand-made crafts, t-shirt, hats, jewelry and art work.

Just a sampling of some of the favorite Polish food items that are always a hit at this popular event are:

Potato Pancakes: “Latkes” or “boxties,” these savories are simply thin pancakes made from grated potatoes, usually flavored with onion or garlic. Top your potato pancakes with apple sauce or sour cream. Wyborny! (Bon appetit!)

Pierogies: “Varenyky,” tasty dumplings filled with a variety of fillings like sauerkraut, cheese, fruit or beef.

Cabbage Rolls: A traditional favorite, simply cabbage leaves wrapped around fillings such as beef or pork that’s flavored with seasonings.

Kishka: A delicious type of sausage that inspired the classic polka tune “Who Stole The Kishka?”
