Polanie is a Polish Folk Dance group operating out of Calgary, Alberta Canada and currently celebrating their fortieth anniversary. Polanie is focused on Youth Development that revolves around the Polish community, their local Parish, and the greater Canadian community. To know Polanie, its essential to examine the three fundamental cornerstones of the organization: a Proud Polish Heritage, the pursuit of Dance Excellence, and Canadian Multiculturalism.
Established as a non-profit organization by Sister Alojza (Krystyna Cichowicz) in 1977 and operating out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; the Polanie Polish Song & Dance Association is one of the top Polish Dance ensembles in North America. Polanie presents a full range of traditional full-length classical dance. The associations’s repertoire includes works by Poland’s most celebrated dance masters. In addition to its classical repertoire, Polanie also embraces contemporary works and encourages the creation of new artistic dances and the development of Canadian choreographers and artistic directors. The association takes great pride in achieving exceptional standards in costume design that ensures the utmost excellence in artistic presentation.
Polanie has performed across the World to a wide range of audiences. The association has toured Canada, United States, and Europe, including performances at high profile events such as the Olympic Games, Poland’s prestigious International Festival of Polish Folk Dance where it was awarded first prize for Best Choreography, and second prize for Best Performance, and off course the greatest outdoor show on earth – The Calgary Stampede.
Polanie Song & Dance Association is committed to serving our youth through introducing and assisting their growth in traditional dance. Polanie takes great pride in fostering a positive youth oriented environment that promotes sound values, goals, and teamwork. The association has a wide range of age appropriate programmes designed to engage with schools and children in the Calgary area.
